A Turning Center is a Lathe with a Computer Numerical Control (CNC). Turning is the machining process used to make cylindrical parts, during which the cutting tool moves in a linear fashion while the workpiece is clamped and rotated by a spinle usually with a chuck. There have been vast cutting improvements on turning centers in recent years, by the introduction of driven tools (live tools) in the turret, with a C-axis on the spindle, enabling a wide variety of milling functions to be performed on a lathe in one set up, ensuring maximum accuracy of the part.
